 2016 Preview 


       Muscle Shoals completed the 2015 season with a 11-1 record. The Trojans cruised through the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record going into the post season. Last year Muscle Shoals captured the region eight title and a number one seed in the Class 6A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. Muscle Shoals reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Minor by a score of 23-16.

       The defense was very stingy last season as Muscle Shoals ranked 6th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 9.3 points a game.

       As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Muscle Shoals has gone a combined 64-12. Their 84.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class 6A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Muscle Shoals has managed to compile a record of 141-131. Their 52.0% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 6A and 162nd in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2008.

       The Trojans are led by head coach Scott Basden who is entering his ninth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 75-23 over the past eight seasons at Muscle Shoals. Under his direction the Trojans have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times. They have won four region crowns with Coach Basden.

       Coach Basden's overall record as a head football coach in sixteen season stands at 144-52 (73.5%). His 144 wins rank 29th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Basden's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of fourteen times and won seven region championships. Coach Basden won a state championship at Cordova in 2007.

       Coach Basden needs six wins this season to reach the 150 win milestone.

       The Muscle Shoals Trojans will play in Class 6A region eight during the 2016 season.

       The Trojans enter the 2016 season riding a 15 game regular season winning streak. Muscle Shoals has won 9 consecutive region games. They have won 37 straight games on their home turf at J.F. Moore Stadium.

       While most teams rebuild during the off season, Muscle Shoals has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season. The Trojans should be considered one of the favorites for the region eight championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Trojans have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2008 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

       The Trojans open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Gardendale on Friday, August 19 at J.F. Moore Stadium. Last year the Gardendale Rockets finished with an overall record of 10-3 and in second place in Class 6A region six. The Rockets lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 6A playoffs to Austin by a score of 53-38.

       Muscle Shoals and Gardendale have met a total of 6 times on the football field. The Trojans have a 5-1-0 record against the Rockets. They last met in with

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Parrish scored a record 77 points in a playoff game against Cedar Bluff in 2001. The Tornados were shutout the following week 19-0 by Courtland.
